Cycle/car coexistence in rural San Diego

Here's a piece from the Fallbrook/Bonsall Village News, evidently from a San Diego suburb or small nearby town. It's a fair-handed piece, I think. As do the posters of the first couple of comments, both cyclists.

The aspect of the piece that makes it blogworthy is the not-so-usual mention of something "all cyclists know:" That cyclists can identify with motorists and the issues drivers have to deal with, but very few motorists have a clue about life on two wheels over by the curb.

I've ever seen the phrase "a flock of cyclists." Conjures up the image of an early eighties band with what I now realize was helmet hair.

It's a gaggle of cyclists (or herd). We have awful problems with cycle herding in Portola Valley (Bay Area, CA) and the worst offenders seem to be the WEB COR riders.

Fortunately car drivers are somewhat used to it and pass the bunch when it's safe to do so. Visitors, however, go berserk.

But these same herds run stop signs and red lights, en masse, and that gets the Sheriff's ire up and tickets issued.
