I left the following comment at the end of the article: This line in the article "Bicycling has never held a dominant position in American sport" is wrong. The writer is unfamiliar with the history of the sport. In the late 1800's, professional cycling races outdrew professional baseball games and the riders were much better paid than the baseball players, too.
