From the Times: Making coffee....

As caffeination goes upscale....here's a wry piece about missing the simple old days.

The good old days were when you could buy a size 6 Melitta filter without driving all the way from BombTown to Santa Fe.

All this pouring water, no matter how you do it, just makes what Italians call "acqua sporca" (dirty water)so why spend so much time and effort on it? These days one can get a deal from ILLY Caffe where you get a simple-to-use machine and their iper-espresso capsules (machine almost free when you sign up for the coffee program) so that even the most unskilled person can have an almost perfect espresso in just a few minutes and with a bit of skill a pretty decent cappuccino in the mornings. Of you can just get a cheap moka-pot and make some awful-tasting, highly caffeinated stuff and force it down for medicinal purposes. If you want a hot drink to warm yourself up, make some TEA!
