I participate in Centuries all the time, touring bike equipped with panniers and all sorts of "junk." I never win but I'm there to do the ride, get the exercise and enjoy myself.
"Hey, what's in the panniers?" ask the riders on their eight thousand dollars, sub 13 pound carbon fiber rockets.
"Beer," I respond.
Which brings everything to a rapid halt so I can share the brew with other riders. I might not be fast but at least I'm popular!
